Because of your generosity The Centenary was able to give out gifts to 98 students at our Angel Tree party on December 13. The next week 56 children in 27 families in need received Christmas assistance in the form of clothes and gifts for children and household supplies and food for the families. Thank you to all of the individuals and Sunday School Classes who made this out-reach possible. The staff wishes you were able to see the tears, hear the words of thanks, and receive the hugs as parents accepted gifts and food for their children and households.

Ornaments made by The Centenary children are in baskets outside the side door of the Sanctuary, in the Lobby of The Vine, and in the Narthex. The ornaments are for you to keep.
Each ornament lists a child’s name and two Christmas wishes. Take an ornament, write your name and the child’s name on the clip board by the basket, purchase a gift for $35 or less, wrap it, put the child’s name on the package, bring the present to the Welcome Center or the Church Office by December 10, and hang the ornament on your tree!
Your gift will be presented during our Angel Tree party. We tell the children that you don’t get this gift for being good, you get this gift because someone in the church is following the example of Christ and wants you to know that you are a child of God and they love you. Merry Christmas!

As part of The Centenary’s 50 anniversary celebration we selected a maple tree to be planted on the corner of Oak and Lindsay Streets in honor of Nina Hale, the founder of this ministry, and Johnny Oneal, who devoted 37 years to generations of children in the program. After the required winter planting, the leaves are breaking forth and we are ready to celebrate The Centenary Maple with Johnny, Nina, and you! Join us at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 4 in the parking lot at the corner of Lindsay and Oak Streets. The children from The Centenary After School Program will be there along with their parents. There will be a bounce house, games, and hot dogs for the kids beginning at 3 p.m. concluding with a short program at 5 p.m.

On March 24 Cub Scouts from The Centenary’s Pack 3434 participated in Camporee at Reflection Riding. They learned how to start a fire, built a shelter, explored how HAM radio frequencies work, learned how to read a compass, cut walking sticks from the bamboo jungle, hiked and fed wolves!!
Lorean Mays and Ryan Murray from Boy Scouts oversaw the troop’s activities and the boys had a ball. If this brings back great memories from your Scout days we would love to have you volunteer during the Pinewood Derby to help the boys prepare and race their cars. Contact Mary Grey at [email protected] or call 266-3345.

UTC Volleyball Coach Gives Clinic
to Centenary Kids
Travis Filar, UTC Head Volleyball Coach, and volunteer tutor at The Centenary, arrived with a rolling cart full of volleyballs and gave two clinics to introduce kids in The Centenary to the fundamentals of volleyball. Coach Filar says he loves seeing young people being active and learning a new sport. He praised the students for their spirit and energy. Currently four Centenary middle school students are playing volleyball for their schools and we know that number will grow with Coach Filar’s contagious enthusiasm.
Thank you Coach for sharing your time and talent!
