Welcome to the Missionaries column, brought to you by the World Outreach Commission!

"It has been an exciting winter at the St. Elmo/Alton Park Empowerment Ministry" writes Lisa Nichols. Lisa serves as our covenant Church & Community Worker in this ministry and sends periodic progress reports. Her recent communication informed us about a thirteen passenger van that will be used to transport children to and from school and also serve the transportation needs of seniors. Two exciting initiatives are an "Open Pantry" night which served a meal and provided fellowship for Hispanic families and a conversational Spanish class. It is hoped that the meal will become a regular event.

The youth of St. Elmo UMC met recently with the youth from the Jubilee Project in Sneedville, TN for a weekend of work, fellowship & worship. The Jubilee youth helped to paint and clean rooms at the St. Elmo church that will be used for youth gatherings. This visit gave some knowledge of life styles different from the urban area and will be returned this fall when the youth from St. Elmo/Alton Park return the favor with a trip to the Jubilee Project.

Keep Lisa and her ministry in your prayers.
