Community United Methodist Church
The Inupiaq Choir
Downtown Nome, Alaska
July 23 - August 3, 2002
Eighteen adults linked hearts and hands with the Community United Methodist Church of Nome in a labor of love. The First-Centenary team stripped and retiled the flooring of the church's fellowship hall. Additionally, team members completed a variety of small work projects begun by other mission teams.
 About Community Church
Community Church serves a diverse population of Eskimo, European Americans and African-Americans in a variety of ways, from providing a neighborhood playground for children to selling used clothing in the thrift shop. The missionary currently serving the United Methodist Church in Nome is the Reverend Lucy Barton.
Rev. Barton is a 1982 graduate of Candler School of Theology and a member of the California-Pacific Annual Conference. She is a widow with four grown children and seven grandchildren. In addition to her work in Nome, Lucy works with the Chukotka Native Christian Ministries, an ecumenical group helping to develop an indigenous church in the Chukotka region of Siberia
